APPLY FOR MISCELLANEOUS ATTESTATION AND CONSULAR SERVICES

A. Following is the Consular jurisdiction of the Consulate: Kansas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas.Applicants only from these states may apply at the Consulate General of India, Houston. Please apply strictly as per your jurisdiction for which you have verifiable proof of address.

B. This Consulate have no Agents for providing these services and applicants should approach this Consulate directly, either in person or through mail.

C. There is no parking space available at the Consulate for applicants coming to seek consular services. Visitors arriving by car may have difficulties finding a parking place in the area. Therefore, the use of public transport is recommended. Visitors may park their vehicles at their own risk.

D. Please note that any document issued by US authorities which applicant wants to get it attested by the Consulate must be apostilled by the respective State Government Authorities before presenting the document for its attestation at the Consulate.

E. Apostille Convention: The Hague Convention, to which India and USA are signatories, abolishes the requirement of legalization for Foreign Public Documents. With the certification by the Hague Convention 'Apostille', the document is entitled to recognition in India and vice versa and no certification by the Embassy of India is required. The Convention applies to public documents which have been executed in the territory of one Contracting State and which have to be produced in the territory of another Contracting State.

F. The Consulate does not attest any document issued by authorities in India. If any document issued by authorities in India such as birth and death certificates, affidavits, educational documents/diplomas, marriage certificate, Driving License etc. are required to be presented to authorities in USA, those should be apostilled in India. G. Under Miscellaneous Services, Consulate General of India, Houston is offering the following services:

REGISTRATIONS:

  1. REGISTRATION OF BIRTH OF CHILD BORN ABROAD
  1. REGISTRATION OF MARRIAGES ALREADY SOLEMNIZED IN USA
  1. REGISTRATION OF DEATH FOR INDIAN NATIONALS AND NO OBJECTION FOR TRANSFER OF MORTAL REMAIN (TMR) TO INDIA WITH ATTESTATION OF NECESSARY DOCUMENTS

H. GENERAL INFORMATION:

  • Local USA documents like bank statement, salary statement, employment letter of the applicant, Driving License, etc. need to be APOSTILLED by the respective USA authorities before presenting it in the Consulate for its attestation. On each such document to be attested, applicant will mention “I TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CONTENTS OF THE DOCUMENT”.After that applicant will put his full name and signature (as per passport) on each document submitted for attestation.
  • For attestation of Indian passport, Driving License, Pan Card, Adhar Card, Voter ID, Educational documents etc., applicant may submit Notarized copy of the same. Documents which are not apostilled from India will not be authenticated by Consulate. Such documents will only be attested as “TRUE COPY ATTESTATION ONLY”. On each document to be attested, applicant will state that “I TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CONTENTS OF THE DOCUMENT” and write full name and sign, as in the passport.
  • General documents required in every type of application.

a) Valid proof of Address/Residence (Notarized Copy of anyone of following):

      • US Driving License OR
      • Utility Bill OR
      • Lease Agreement OR
      • State Identity Card OR
      • Mortgage Deed

b) Proof of US Visa Status (Notarized Copy of any one of the following):

      • Visa page of Passport (i.e. H1B, H4, L1, L2 etc.) OR
      • Green Card OR
      • Employment Authorization Document (Work Permit) OR
      • I-797, I-140 or I-20 (If approval is pending, attach a handwritten note detailing the efforts being taken to regularize status)
